Toyama City was ranked 30th in the New York Times’ “52 Places to Go in 2025” list of the world’s top 52 places to visit. The nomination was made by Adam H. Graham, a photographer and writer living in Japan. He commented that it is a waste that many tourists using the Hokuriku Shinkansen do not get off at Toyama but instead go to Kanazawa, even though Toyama is a compact city that is rich in culture and food and fun to walk around. He was also aware of the recovery from the Noto Peninsula earthquake.
We are very honored. You can take public transportation from Shinminato in Imizu City where our facility is located, but we also recommend that you travel by car (about 30 minutes to Toyama City). The photo shows the “Shin-Minato Ohashi,” a large bridge with free passage across the Toyama New Port. When crossing this bridge toward Toyama City, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Tateyama Mountain Range, which rises more than 3,000 meters above sea level, from a very high vantage point. Many local Toyama residents love the view when crossing this bridge. On days when the weather is fine and the Tateyama mountain range can be seen clearly, many drivers drive over this bridge at a deliberately slow speed, and some even cross the bridge several times, going back and forth.
This “Shin-Minato Ohashi” is a road for automobiles only, but there is also a pedestrian walkway under the road. The pathway can be reached by escalators installed on both bridge girders. The sea can be seen below, and if you are lucky, you can see a large cargo ship passing by. There is also a free parking lot at the foot of the bridge.
To everyone who is interested in visiting Toyama City, we invite you to stay at our hotel, Mizube-no-Minka Hotel, and enjoy both a trip to enjoy the fishing town atmosphere and a trip to the compact and enjoyable walking area in the center of Toyama City.
